Heavily Carved Secretary Desk & Chair by George Zee

This desk and chair feature intricately carved wood panels depicting Asian scenes throughout the front and sides. The carved arcing trees in each panel conceal handles for the drop-front desk and drawers. Upon opening the desk, an internal mechanism automatically extends two front supports, each fronted by carved female figures. The interior of the desk reveals two small drawers and plenty of additional storage. Four spacious drawers lie below. The chair, with its own carved back panel, has a beautifully upholstered seat cushion. This set was made by the Hong Kong-based maker of fine furniture, George Zee & Co., around the middle of the 20th century.
